Looking for a back-end developer is like looking for the best online casino, especially when you don’t know what you’re looking for.

Today we look at what you need to know about your back-end developer so you know what to look for when trying to find the best developer for your needs.

What is a Back-End Developer?

A back-end developer is an expert meant to build and maintain the mechanisms that process data and perform specific actions on the website. Back-end developers are mainly involved in security, storage, and other server-side functions.

There has been a lot of curiosity over whether or not back-end developers code and the truth is that back-end developers’ primary job is to build code. The code built by back-end developers allows a database and applications to communicate easily with one another and function properly.

Back-end developers deal with building code, framework utilization, troubleshooting, debugging web applications, and database management. It’s essential to remember that users do not directly interact with the elements created by back-end developers; however, they do interact with them indirectly. This is because the pieces created by front-end and back-end developers are both needed to create a successful website or app.

What is a Front-End Developer?

A front-end developer creates the parts of websites and applications the user interacts with. They do this primarily using three web languages: HTML, Javascript, and CSS. Together these allow users to access and interact with the website or an app. This means that front-end developers create the user interface on top of the code from the back-end developers.

Front-end developers build elements such as navigation, layouts, buttons, animation, graphics, images, and content organization. A front-end developer takes the visual designs from UI and UX designers. With these two elements, the front-end developer can bring the website to life and ensure that the website functions well.

A front-end developer can also create something called a static website. A static website delivers fixed content to a user’s browser as it was initially stored. The telltale sign that a website is static is that it does not allow the user to interact with the website. Static websites are used by many small business websites and most simple landing pages.

The Difference Between Front-End and Back-End Developers

There are three main differences between front-end and back-end developers. Below we look at the three main elements that differentiate front-end and back-end developers.

The Difference is in Which Side of the Site They Build

A front-end developer works with what the user can see and interact with on a website. A back-end developer operates with elements that the user cannot see. However, when these elements come together, they create a website that works and allows users to do things such as making payments, using live chat options and many more.

The Strength Difference

The back-end and front-end developers operate differently and focus on different aspects of the website or app. It’s important to note that although both parts require different things, that does not mean that one is more important than the other. Both share equal importance and assist the user in having a glitch-free experience.

The Difference is in the Language

Front-end and back-end developers do not speak the same language. The front-end developers speak HTML, Javascript, and CSS. Back-end developers use Sass, React.js, jQuery, and AngularJS. Back-end developers also communicate using C++, PHP, Python, and many more.

Why Can’t I Have Both Developers in One Position?

The truth is that you can have both a front-end and back-end developer in one person. A full-stack developer is an individual that has both back-end and front-end development skills. You can take Software Engineering courses that allow you to operate in both fields.

The Bottom Line

The back-end and front-end developers are significant and work together to ensure that your website can operate smoothly. If you want a website or app that’s glitch free, then you’ll need to invest in a sound Software Engineer.
